I’m trying new needles, a new pattern and a new method all wrapped up into a single project.  I’ve cast on Business Casual a very cool (free) sock pattern from Tanis Fiber Arts.  These are a nice manly pattern so I’m making them for my husband.  I haven’t finished his tie yet and every now and then he reminds me I still haven’t knitted anything for him. Maybe I’ll be more successful with this project — my first pair of socks.

I’m also trying the magic loop method of knitting for these socks instead of knitting on double pointed needles.   I’ve mentioned before that I’m not a huge fan of the dp needles particularly in smaller sizes with a lighter yarn.  Magic loop just might change my life.  I recommend this video from KnitPicks if you’re interested in seeing how it’s done.

The needles are Knitter’s Pride Dreamz, I am trying out a set of their circular needles for this project. They’re a beautiful wood needle and I am really impressed by how smooth and slippery they are especially for wood. They feel much more sturdy than bamboo. Another bonus is that they come in fun, fancy colors.  I am normally an Addi Turbo kind of girl but these are a close second. The Knitter’s Pride price is right at around $7.00 for a set.  I’m not ready to change out my set of Addi Clicks but I like the idea of using these for my less commonly used sizes.

The one thing that’s not new?  I’m using Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light in Mare. It’s amazing and I am so in love with how this particular colorway includes bright blues, browns and black.  They’ll match anything.
