Change of plans! I found the pattern that I love yesterday.
I loved all the opinions, but when I saw this vest, I knew it was the pattern I wanted to knit! I was able to cast on yesterday and have about 5 inches done.
I was taking these photos and the afghan my grandmother knit for Kevin & I as a wedding present was in the background, so I thought I’d share it with you. It will be our 12 year anniversary in March and I love the afghan more every year. (I love Kev more every year, as well, but this is a knitting blog.) When grandma gave us this afgan I thought it was really pretty, but since I began knitting, I have an appreciation and admiration for each stitch. It is a cherished gift. My grandmother is going to be 90 years old in April and she is still knitting! Imagine all of the projects I can do from now until 90?!
I recently asked Grandma for the pattern and she found it! I hope to complete the same afghan myself. I think that would be a very rewarding project!

I love that afghan. Your post reminded me that I have one my grandmother crocheted for me when I was a child. It has followed me around the country for the past 50 years and is still in remarkable shape. I never thought to take a picture of her incredible achievement. But, I will now!
P.S. Thank you for the info on the knitting spindle. I emailed the store in Maine to inquire and they responded quickly. Do you have the large one or the small one? Maybe I’ll just get one of each!

Your post makes me wonder how many people have been inspired to knit or crochet by their grandmas. I still have all four of the ones my grandma knit for me and inspired me to take up knitting.

I agree with you on the afghan from Grandma Ryan- pretty impressive that all of us got one when we got married. I look at mine through different eyes now that I’m a novice knitter. Pretty pictures!
That Rialto pattern looks amazing, but I’m so entranced by the afghan!! That’s great that she still has the pattern!
Wow, I have missed not being able to comment on the blog all week. I did survive the withdrawal though. That is a really nice vest. Still would encourage you to make the sweater Minna pointed out sometime. That is awesome!!
