Mystery Knit - Revealed

Posted on

This little mystery challenge has been fun for me, I hope it was for you too. Some guesses were right on & some you'll never catch me knitting (ahem, a feminine product or undergarment). So, what did those Ts turn into?  Mini Baby Booties! I was working on these as baby shower favors for this beautiful woman and dear, dear friend who is about to become a mommy! I had to make 25 of them and without the hard work of my mother and my sister Betsy, it never would have happened.  They were a HUGE help and I can't thank them enough.  My only consolation was that they assured me they had a lot of fun making them. [caption id="attachment_3186" align="alignnone" width="529"] Another thank you to Betsy for the photo![/caption] To make the booty, a.k.a. bootay, flip the T upside down so that the cast on side is facing you.  Take one right side of the T and wrap it down and across so that it meets leg of the T and aligns with the cast off edge.  Like this: Then repeat with the other side of the T crossing over the top.  Seam both sides then seam the front.  Then tie on a little bow.  Thanks to Betsy for the bow idea, I hadn't thought of it myself but it's no doubt necessary to complete the booty.  Also thanks to Betsy for tying them all on! The original inspiration for the booties was a baby Chukka booty pattern that I had modified but after one of the comments last week called them fortune cookie booties, I did a quick ravelry search. Sure enough, same thing!  Thanks, jlstotts, your comment inspired another idea for the baby shower. On the table where we had the favors, I printed a sign asking guests to leave a good fortune for the baby, and take a keychain keepsake with them. Let's keep the good fortune going, leave a good fortune comment here for Baby C and I'll pick 2 random winners on Wednesday and you'll each be sent a keychain!

This was such a fun project, Kara! I am hoping to work on another set today.
Here’s my little hope for Baby C- to have the complete kindness of its mother, the sense of humor of its father, and all the very best in the world. That little baby is already so fortunate in the gift of parents and extended family he or she is being born into. Congratulations, Nate & Ashley!

Could a baby actually wear these? (I’m so glad it was something cute!)

Babies are so exciting! Your photo of the mom to be is wonderful. I am sure everyone of your readers wishes her and her family well. I wish for the baby a healed earth on which to thrive. I have a grand nephew arriving in October and would love to use your booties to decorate his shower gift!

Kara, Betsy, Cheryl, and everyone else that took the time and effort to make our baby shower a wonderful success I am truly grateful. It turned out perfect, and I couldn’t have asked for a better day, surrounded by loving friends and family. The fortunes were a great addition to the very cute baby booties, and I enjoyed reading them all, and will continue to enjoy the ones that come! Thank you again, Kara, for all your hard work over the last couple of weeks getting me ready for Baby C! Every last detail was much appreciated, and I can’t wait for this little baby to meet it’s Auntie Kara :)
    Lots of Love!

Hi Katie! I would try doubling all of the stitches in the pattern. That would probably be a more realistic size for a new born! Betsy is doing this now so maybe she can weigh in on the results!
