Weekend DIY: Before & After

As you know, we moved into a new house this past Spring. It's been full of projects, surprises, frustrations but also a lot of love and satisfaction. I couldn't be happier with our new home. There are still some projects to complete but for now I'm still enjoying doing them all! Many of them I'll be sharing with you as they are completed but first up was a project that I did this past weekend - the stairs.
I started Saturday morning and thought I might be able to finish it by noon that day. Well, let's just say that Sunday at 3pm I was still working on this one. It was a lot of work -- but it was all worth it. About 1/2 way through on Saturday I wasn't so sure - now, I am sure.
This is what the stairs looked like the day we had the house inspection before moving in

Prior to moving in, we had some new hardwood floors added and the existing hardwood refinished, so up until last Saturday it looked like this (mismatched banister included):

You can see it was in need of some paint -- the stain from the refinishing of the wood really marked up the white paint.

Instead of just repainting them white, I decided to use some of the same colors I had used on the walls when we repainted the house. I don't really know where I got the idea -- I must have seen it somewhere...Katie maybe?
Here's the staircase today:

The gray color is Benjamin Moore Platinum Gray. I used this in my living room -- that transformation will be posted another day, just as soon as I find the right mirror to hang in there!

While it took quite a few hours to complete this -- it's still a very simple project that makes a big difference!
